During the lunch break on Day 4 of the 2nd India vs England Test, Kevin Pietersen and Zaheer Khan engaged in a friendly banter, marking a stark contrast from their infamous Jellybean incident 17 years ago. This time, their exchange revolved around the legendary MS Dhoni. While many remember Dhoni nearly dismissing Pietersen in 2011, not everyone knows that Pietersen had claimed Dhoni’s wicket four years earlier at The Oval. Dhoni was batting on 92 when Pietersen bowled one that shattered his stumps—a moment that Pietersen won’t soon forget.
Pietersen and Zaheer Khan Reflect on Test Wickets and Dhoni’s Dismissal:
During a casual conversation about their Test wickets, Kevin Pietersen couldn’t resist reminiscing about his first Test wicket, which was Kamran Akmal at Lord’s. Zaheer Khan followed suit, proudly recalling his 300th wicket, correctly guessing it was Jacques Kallis. As they exchanged praises, Pietersen couldn’t resist mentioning his memorable dismissal of MS Dhoni. The banter continued between the two cricketing legends during the lunch break on Day 4 of the 2nd India vs England Test.

Kevin Pietersen: You know who else I’ve managed to get in my pocket? The one and only Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Right there, alongside Kamran Akmal.
Zaheer Khan: Funny you mention that. I bumped into Yuvraj Singh recently, and he couldn’t stop talking about Kevin Pietersen being in his pocket.
Kevin Pietersen: Haha, I had a feeling you’d bring that up.
Zaheer’s reference was clear: Yuvraj had a knack for dismissing Pietersen multiple times in the past. In fact, if there was ever a time to use the term ‘bunny’, it would be for Pietersen when facing Yuvraj, who got him out five times in ODIs—more than any other bowler in the world. The banter continued.
Kevin Pietersen: Yeah, Yuvraj definitely got the better of me a few times! chuckles.
Zaheer Khan: I remember KP giving Yuvraj a special nickname.
Kevin Pietersen: Yeah, and he even used it as his email ID for a while. We’ve had some epic battles on the field, and that’s just part of the game when you play for so long. The best part is being able to talk about it and have some fun. It’s like what Ashwin and Stokes would do once their playing days are over—just sharing a laugh and reminiscing about old times.
